SAN ANTONIO, TX — With Victor Wembanyama sidelined for the first time this season, De’Aaron Fox delivered his best outing of the year, posting 28 points and 11 assists to lead the San Antonio Spurs past the Sacramento Kings 123–110 on Sunday.
Harrison Barnes added 20 points and Devin Vassell scored 16 as San Antonio snapped a two-game slide and earned its first win of the team’s five-game homestand.
Wembanyama was ruled out shortly before tipoff with a strained left calf. Coach Mitch Johnson said the issue developed gradually rather than from one specific play, and the star rookie is considered day-to-day. The Spurs then lost another young contributor when Stephon Castle exited after the first half with a left-hip injury. He played over 15 minutes before halftime and remained on the bench afterward, though no timeline was provided.
Despite missing their franchise centerpiece, the Spurs produced one of their most balanced offensive games of the season. Seven players scored in double figures, including Keldon Johnson, who finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Sacramento, now on a six-game losing streak, was led by DeMar DeRozan’s 27 points. Domantas Sabonis posted 17 points and 13 rebounds.
For Fox, the win came with extra significance. It marked his first victory over his former team since Sacramento dealt him to San Antonio on Feb. 5 in a three-team trade that brought Zach LaVine to the Kings. In his only previous meeting with Sacramento on March 7, Fox was held to 16 points and missed all six of his 3-point attempts.
This time, he set the tone early. Fox knocked down his first shot of the night and buried a pair of threes in the opening minutes. He finished 11-for-20 from the floor and 4-for-8 from beyond the arc, orchestrating the offense with control from start to finish.
The victory helped San Antonio put behind them the sting of blowing late leads in consecutive losses to Golden State earlier in the week.
