Hawaii—-The St. John’s women’s volleyball team wrapped up the OUTRIGGER Invitational with a tough 3-0 loss to Hawaii on Sunday, as the Red Storm were swept with set scores of 25-20, 25-9, and 25-13.

Despite the team’s continued struggles, outside hitter Erin Jones was a bright spot, earning All-Tournament Team honors after leading the Red Storm with 39 kills across the weekend. Her standout performance, however, wasn’t enough to lift St. John’s out of its early-season slump, as the team now sits at 0-6.

Tough Night in Honolulu

St. John’s showed promise in the opening set, keeping pace with Hawaii before falling 25-20. But the match quickly turned one-sided, with the Red Storm managing just nine points in the second set — their lowest single-set output of the season — and only 13 in the third.

Hawaii, now 2-4 on the year, used the match to gain footing after a rocky start to their own season. The Rainbow Wahine controlled the tempo and capitalized on St. John’s offensive miscues throughout.

Key Stats:

Erin Jones: 39 total kills during the tournament

Second Set Scoring: Just 9 points — a season low for the Red Storm

Current Record: St. John’s remains winless at 0-6

Hawaii’s Record: Improves to 2-4

Looking Ahead:

The Red Storm return home to Queens to regroup ahead of the 2025 Jack Kaiser Volleyball Classic, which begins September 12 against Marist. The tournament presents a much-needed opportunity for St. John’s to recalibrate and chase its first win of the season.

Bottom Line

St. John’s will need to address its offensive inconsistencies and find answers quickly. While Erin Jones continues to deliver strong individual performances, the team will require a more cohesive attack and tighter execution to reverse its winless start.
