Sun End Road Losing Streak With 80-69 Win Over Mystics

Washington, DC— The Connecticut Sun snapped a frustrating 13-game road losing streak on Tuesday night with an impressive 80-69 victory over the Washington Mystics. Saniya Rivers led the charge with 17 points, while Olivia Nelson-Ododa added 15 points and nine rebounds to propel the Sun to their first road win since May 30.

Connecticut (7-27) improved to 2-15 on the road, securing its fifth win in their last six meetings in Washington, despite a tough 104-67 loss earlier this season. Tina Charles contributed 13 points and nine rebounds, and Aaliyah Edwards scored eight in her debut against her former team.

For Washington (16-19), Sonia Citron had a standout performance with 19 points, becoming the franchise’s rookie points leader (526), surpassing Chamique Holdsclaw. Shakira Austin poured in 12 points, and Jade Melbourne chipped in 11.

The Sun set the tone early, starting the second quarter with a 10-2 run to take a 31-25 lead. They closed the half with a 9-0 run to lead 47-35, then extended their advantage in the third.

In the fourth, Nelson-Ododa spearheaded an 8-0 run, pushing the lead to 76-57 with just over four minutes remaining.

Next up: Connecticut hosts Washington in a rematch on Thursday.
