Walsh Gym—The Seton Hall women’s basketball team was coming off a 69-61 win over Saint Joseph’s on Thursday with Lauren Park-Lane exploding for 30 points but to beat the Orange, she would need the help of her team mates and they came up a little short.
The Hall came on the court with no energy, intensity, and lacked a sense of urgency against the Orange.
Dyaisha Fair scored 24 points to lead the Orange (20-14) in a 72-54 win over Seton Hall (19-15) on Monday night at the Historic Walsh Gymnasium.
Fair recorded her 17th game this season of 20 or more points.
With the win, Syracuse advances to play Columbia in the round of 16 at 7 p.m. Friday at Schiller Court at Levien Gymnasium in New York City. The Pirates ends its season with the loss.
The Pirates qualified for its eight WNIT berth all-time but came out flat and played with low energy in the first half.
The Orange jumped on the Hall from the start but weather the storm in the first. Syracuse out-scored Seton Hall and was up 27-9 at the 2:23 mark in second quarter. The Pirates had a difficult time containing Fair and Georgia Woolley on the perimeter. Fair led Cuse with 13 points for the half.
The Orange took a 35-15 lead into the break. Seton Hall shot 48.3% (14-29) from the field and shot 46.7% (7-15) from beyond the arc.
In the second half, the Pirates pressed the ball hard and went on a 14-3 run accentuated by a silky smooth three Park-Lane cut the deficit to 40-29 with 5:50 left but the turnovers killed the Hall in the waning minutes of the game.
Seton Hall outscored Syracuse 25-16 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 11 points, 51-40, but the Orange opened the fourth quarter with a 9-0 run and close the game out .
Lauren Park-Lane scored 23 points and Azana Baines chipped in 8 for the gritty Pirates.
Syracuse out-rebound the Pirates, 46-to-39 for the game. The Orange took advantage on the boards and got a lot of secondary chances.
