Bronx, NY—-Sunday evening, the New York Yankees (34-15) dominated the Chicago White Sox (14-34) at home in a nearly sold-out crowd (41,041 in attendance), 7-2. Despite the electric game, the atmosphere was filled with passionate and exciting fans of all ages. That said, at the beginning of the game, the Yankees began in the field and started Carlos Rodon on the mound.
The Yankees had a slow start to the game, however they began to mesh eventually at the top of the fourth inning. In the second inning, Rodon gave up a White Sox home run, resulting in the Sox’s only scoring the entire game.
Carlos Rodón (5-2) won his third straight start for the Bombers, an AL-best 33-15. The Yankees have won 13 of 15 and are on their longest winning streak since Sept. 18-25, 2022. The Yankees swept their fourth series, matching last year’s total.
“My goal was just to out there and go as long as I could,” said Rodón. “Whom Boone said was feeling ill in the days leading to the start.”
Turning Point of the game, the Yankees slow start caused some concern, nonetheless the hitting began to heat up at the bottom of the second inning. After answering the two runs given up by Rodon and knotting the game up at two each, it became stagnant for both teams. Later in the game, the Yankees struggled to get on base due to the strenuous pitching of the White Sox pitcher Chris Flexen.
Flexen made it difficult for the Yankees to get in any rhythm at-bat, in fact there were moments when one could see the visible frustration of some of the most respected hitters in the league. Nevertheless, once the Yankees began gaining rhythm and confidence at the plate in the fourth inning, the momentum of the game began to shift.
“Just contributions from everyone, the whole roster is contributing,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said.
White Sox Corey Julks hit his first homer this season and Remillard had an RBI triple as Chicago were held to two runs or fewer for the 24th time this season. Julks made a leaping grab at the wall in left, robbing Jose Trevino of a home run in the sixth.
Bottom of the fourth, the Yankees managed to score three runs to give them the lead. While the Yankees occasionally got on base, they struggled to score for the majority of the game. Until the huge bomb from Yankees’ third baseman Jon Berti which led into a big inning for the Bombers.
Ultimately leading, to the newly acquired star player Juan Soto’s base hit followed by another homer by Yankees All-Star Aaron Judge. The onslaught became overwhelming for the Soxs and naturally combined with the electric crowd and atmosphere, it appeared it wasn’t much Chicago could do to get back into this game.
“We just got out homered,” Chicago manager Pedro Grifol said. “You got to put the ball in the seats in this ballpark.” Overall, the Yankees continue to cruise through the regular season, however their pitching still appears concerning and gathering momentum earlier in the game.
Reliever Clay Holmes got the final two outs on four pitches after Michael Tonkin put two on base in the ninth inning.
Often times, the Yankees build momentum as the game progresses, instead of setting the tone from the opening pitch but it is working for them for now. Tomorrow evening, the Yankees next matchup is at home against the Seattle Mariners (25-22).
