Boston, MA — Brett Baty came through in the clutch Wednesday night, driving in three runs — including two on a go-ahead single in the seventh — as the New York Mets defeated the Boston Red Sox 5-1 to avoid a series sweep at Fenway Park.

Baty sparked the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning and later delivered a pivotal two-run knock off the Green Monster in the seventh to break a 1-1 tie. Francisco Lindor chipped in with two hits and added insurance in the ninth with a solo home run, helping the Mets snap a skid and pick up just their second win in the last seven games.

The Red Sox missed a major scoring opportunity in the fifth when, after tying the game 1-1 on a Jarren Duran sacrifice fly to deep right, they loaded the bases again. But reliever Huascar Brazobán entered and struck out Alex Bregman looking on a full count to end the threat. Brazobán (3-0) earned the win for his efforts.

Boston’s Liam Hendriks (0-1) took the loss, struggling in the seventh after replacing Garrett Crochet. He gave up three straight singles, including a controversial infield hit by Luisangel Acuña that was overturned on replay. Reliever Brennan Bernardino then surrendered Baty’s go-ahead single, followed by a sacrifice fly from Juan Soto to stretch the Mets’ lead to 4-1.

Turning Point:
In the fifth, with the game tied and the bases loaded, Duran’s 108 mph line drive to the warning track brought home just one run. Brazobán’s strikeout of Bregman ended the inning and shifted momentum back to New York.

By the Numbers:
Tylor Megill matched a career high with 10 strikeouts over five strong innings. In total, Mets pitchers combined to fan 16 Red Sox batters — a season-worst for Boston.

What’s Next:
The Mets return home to host the Dodgers in a weekend series starting Friday. Los Angeles will send lefty Clayton Kershaw (0-0) to the mound against New York’s Griffith Canning (5-1).
