Metlife Stadium—-New York Giants (2-1) wide receiver Sterling Shepard suffered a torn ACL in his left knee in Monday night’s 23-16 loss against the Dallas Cowboys (2-1).

The Giants were looking this season for Kadarius Toney (hamstring), Wan’Dale Robinson (knee), and Kenny Golladay who has been struggling to fill the void. Shepard was the G-Men team’s No. 1 receiver and now everything is up in the air when it comes to that position.

The G-Men, who have yet to score a first-quarter touchdown this season, trailed at the break, 6-3. The offense moved the ball and scored to take a 13-6 lead in the third quarter on Gano’s second field goal and Barkley’s touchdown. The Cowboys outscored the Giants in the fourth quarter, 10-3, to walk away with the victory.

“We didn’t play our best,” Daboll said. “But the guys worked their tails off. They competed until the end. We came up a little short. Give the other team credit. So, we have to get back to work and get ready for Chicago.”

Daniel Jones completed 20 of 37 passes for 196 yards. He threw a bad interception on the Giants’ final offensive play intended receiver David Sills who slipped to the turf. Jones was sacked five times and got hit consistently. He also ran for 79 yards on nine carries to avoid the Cowboys’ pressure.

The G-Men dropped six passes and had a few lapses on defense to help the Cowboys. They just have to clean a few things up in their upcoming game against the Bears.

The Giants have lost 11 consecutive night games and 10 of their last 11 games against the Cowboys. They will play them again on Thanksgiving Day in Jerry’s World. But this loss was a tough pill to swallow.

Dallas’s Brett Maher kicked three field goals, but the Cowboys scored two touchdowns, on Ezekiel Elliott’s one-yard run late in the third quarter and Cooper Rush’s one-yard pass to CeeDee Lamb in the fourth – which was set up by Lamb’s 26-yard catch on the previous play.

The G-Men defense had no sacks and no takeaways and gave up 176 rushing yards. Two of the Giants’ eight accepted penalties nullified completions totaling 34 yards.

The Giants were 3-11 (27.3%) on third down conversion and if they want to have a successful season that has to drastically improve.

Saquon Barkley scored the Giants’ only touchdown on a 36-yard that gave the G-Men a 13-6 lead with 5:31 remaining in the third. The Giants have scored only four touchdowns in three contests. Graham Gano hit field goals of 42, 51, and 51 yards and had a 47-yard attempt blocked.

“Tough game,” coach Brian Daboll said. “Give Dallas credit. We didn’t get it quite done tonight. They made more plays than we made.”
