NY Giants offensive linemen, Mike Remmers (74), Kevin Zeitler (70), Jon Halapio (75), Will Hernandez (71) and Nate Solder (76) between the New York Giants and Washington Redskins at MetLife Stadium on 9/29/19.

New York, NY–GM Dave Gettleman and head coach Joe Judge have a tall task in front of them regarding the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft. Everyone is speculating that the Giants will draft Clemson LB Isaiah Simmons with their fourth pick. But the Giants haven’t drafted a linebacker in the first round since Carl Banks in 1984, and we miss the good old days when Lawerence Taylor, Harry Carson, Banks, and Gary Reasons were destroying running backs.

The Giants might want to shore up its injury-prone offensive line and draft an offensive tackle in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. The front office has already invested a lot of money into their offensive line and maybe want to be fiscally more responsible in their spending in this area.

The New York Giants’ offensive line was one of the weakest units in the NFL despite being one of the most expensive. Big Blue line gave up 43 sacks and 119 quarterback hits in 2019. Rookie quarterback Daniel Jones was constantly under pressure.

23.5% Of The Salary Cap

The Giants’ most expensive position group is the offensive line. New York has invested $40 million into the offensive hogs, which accounts for 23.5% of the team’s salary (according to NFL on YouTube). The majority of this expense is divided between two players.

Veteran tackle Nate Solder accounts for nearly half of the offensive line’s salary with a 2020 cap hit of $19.5 million (according to Spotrac). In addition to Solder’s massive contract, right guard Kevin Zeitler is also carrying a high cap hit. Zeitler’s 2020 cap hit is $12.5 million (Spotrac).

Nate Solder and Kevin Zeitler’s contracts alone make up $32 million of the $40 million that NY has invested into the offensive line. The Giants probably will try to build their offensive line through the draft and hopefully, they come across a diamond in the ruff.

TOP 3 NEEDS

OFFENSIVE TACKLE

LT Nate Soldier is coming off an injury-prone season had a problem keeping Daniel Jones upright. Mike Remmers spent too much time in the backfield isn’t expected to be retained. So an upgrade in the offensive upgrade is needed.

LINEBACKER

The Giants are expected to move on from Alec Ogletree and might grab Oklahoma Sooner Kenneth Murray to fill that void.

Pass Rusher

Markus Golden was serviceable, but he wasn’t a dominating player that could take over a game by himself. NY needs a force player who can draw multiple blockers.
