New York, NY—The Giants were ranked (23rd) in total offense and (25th) in total defense last season. Gettleman dropped a few hints on his 2020 NFL draft plans this afternoon.

Big Blue would be in position to draft Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs, who won the Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year Award in 2019. Also, they can opt to draft Louisville Mekhi Becton who started 34 games at tackle in three seasons for the Cardinals.

Nate Solder’s 2019 season wasn’t his strongest campaign because of injuries. He allowed 12.5 sacks for 107 total yards and committed four penalties for 40 yards. If he can turn it around the Giants will be a formidable opponent in the Eastern Conference.

Free-agent Cameron Fleming was snatched from the Cowboys and have a chance to crack into the starting lineup.

Edge Rusher

The Giants recorded 36 sacks last season; Marcus Golden, who led the team with 10 hasn’t been re-signed. Defensive end Leonard Williams (franchise tag) was retained but the Giants doesn’t have a bonafide outside linebacker that can finish. The G-Men signed inside linebacker Blake Martinez, a tackle machine with Green Bay to take care of inside zone stuff between the tackles. Everybody knows the Gettleman has a man-crush on Clemson’s linebacker Isaiah Simmons who ran a 4.39 at the NFL combine. So we will have to wait and see what he does with the number 4 pick of the draft.
