New York, NY–A defensive recruit out of high school who made the move to full-time offensive lineman when he arrived on the campus of Auburn. The Eagles literally selected a Nigerian Prince in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL draft.

There were no legitimate backup to any of the three starters on the interior line and Jason Peters is out of the lineup at left tackle. Center Jason Kelce turns 33 in November, he has played in every contest for five straight seasons.

With the No. 210 pick, Philadelphia took Auburn offensive tackle Prince Tega Wanogho (6-5, 308), who grew up in Nigeria and didn’t begin playing football until he arrived in the United States on a basketball scholarship.

Initially Tega Wanogho arrived on campus as defensive lineman but morphed into an offensive tackle at Auburn in 2016. He became a starter in 2017 and was a three-year starter (32 games) in the SEC at left tackle.

During the 2020 pre-draft process, Tega Wanogho was invited to the Senior Bowl, where according to NFL.com, he received a medical red flag for a knee injury.

“It was really heartbreaking for me. You know just knowing that I wasn’t able to perform at the combine, the Senior Bowl or have my own pro day. But yeah, it was heartbreaking because I knew like I wasn’t able to show coaches what I could do. Yeah, I just been going through the meetings and interviews with coaches.”

The lineman admitted it was difficult to digest sliding to the sixth round when he got drafted. But ultimately he feels that the Eagles is the right mesh for him and his skillsets.

Philadelphia selected OL Jack Driscoll (Auburn) in the fourth round on Saturday. The Birds needed more tackle depth after letting Peters leave in free agency and after Halapoulivaati Vaitai signed with Detroit.

Tega Wanogho’s grandfather was a real king of a Nigerian village. So Tega Wanogho is royalty for real.
