
East Hartford, Conn. — Joe Fagnano had an impressive performance, throwing for four touchdowns and running for another, all in the first half, as UConn dominated Merrimack with a 63-14 victory on Saturday.
Fagnano completed 10 of 13 passes for 298 yards, connecting with four different receivers for touchdowns before halftime. He also contributed to UConn’s ground game, as one of four players who rushed for over 30 yards. Four different players scored rushing touchdowns as the Huskies amassed 480 yards of offense by halftime, taking a commanding 56-7 lead.
UConn (1-1) averaged 29.8 yards per completion and 9.9 yards per carry in the first half. They finished the game with 624 total yards of offense. Fagnano ended his day going 13 of 19 for 328 yards, adding a fifth touchdown pass in the second half, a 12-yarder to Alex Honig for the Huskies’ only score after the break.

The Huskies exploded with 35 points in the first quarter. Fagnano connected on a 50-yard pass to Cam Edwards and a 60-yarder to Skylar Bell, who had 105 yards on just two catches. UConn also added rushing touchdowns from 1, 48, and 29 yards out. Durell Robinson contributed a 48-yard touchdown run and finished with 94 yards on 10 carries.
In the second quarter, Shamar Porter caught a 39-yard touchdown, Ezeriah Anderson hauled in a 44-yarder, and Edwards capped the half with a 1-yard rushing score.
Merrimack (0-2) managed 137 yards of offense by halftime, highlighted by a 46-yard touchdown run from Jermaine Corbett, who finished with 103 yards on 14 carries. The Warriors ended the game with 277 total yards, including a 71-yard touchdown pass from Justin Lewis to Seth Sweitzer in the fourth quarter.
