Queens, NY—-On Wednesday night at Carnesecca Arena, the UConn women’s basketball team showcased their dominance, defeating St. John’s 71-45 in front of an announced crowd of 4,917. The Huskies controlled the game from the outset, never allowing the Johnnies to build any momentum.

UConn came out firing early, taking an 8-2 lead right off the bat. They followed it up with an impressive 8-0 run, pushing the lead to 14-2 at the 4:45 mark of the first quarter. By the time the horn sounded for halftime, the Huskies held a commanding 36-21 advantage, with Azzi Fudd leading the charge with 9 points. UConn’s offensive efficiency was on full display, as they shot an impressive 58% (14-24) from the field in the first half.

The second half saw UConn continue to pull away, with Paige Bueckers and Fudd stepping up to lead the offensive surge. Bueckers drained jump shots in the lane, while Fudd did the same, helping to extend the lead to 44-27. On the defensive end, UConn ramped up the pressure, holding St. John’s scoreless for over three minutes.

A 12-2 run midway through the third quarter further widened the gap, pushing UConn’s lead to 52-29. From that point, the Huskies never looked back, maintaining their dominance and cruising to a 71-45 victory.

For St. John’s, Ber’Nyah Mayo was the lone bright spot, leading the Johnnies with 10 points and 2 assists.

UConn’s well-rounded performance, marked by strong defense and efficient shooting, proved to be too much for St. John’s, as the Huskies improved their record (16-2, 7-0) and moved one step closer to their goals for the season.
