In East Hartford, Conn—–Durell Robinson and Mel Brown each rushed for 156 yards, with Robinson adding two touchdowns, leading UConn to a commanding 48-14 victory over Florida Atlantic on Saturday.
UConn moves to 2-2 with the win, while the FAU Owls drop to 1-3. The Huskies are unbeaten on the season at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field, where they’ve outscored opponents 114-31 through two contests.
Robinson made his mark on just 16 carries, while Brown handled the ball 21 times. UConn quarterback Nick Evers also contributed 78 rushing yards on 18 carries and scored twice. Both Evers and backup quarterback Joe Fagnano threw for a touchdown as well.
During a postgame interview, Robinson credited the offensive line for the impressive outing.
“That’s our O-line. They’re amazing,” Robinson said. “I ain’t never seen a group of guys that come and work together so much before and after hours. They’re in the meeting room, they’re always doing something to get better, and that only just encourages me and my running back room to see work hard work pays off. I’m very grateful for that and very grateful for our team. It’s a great win and momentum we can build off.”
The Huskies jumped out to a 27-0 lead and piled up 542 total yards, with 424 of those coming on the ground. For FAU, CJ Campbell scored twice with runs of 3 and 38 yards.
The Huskies amassed 424 yards on the ground, the Huskies had their second greatest rushing performance in school history.
This was the first meeting between the Huskies and Owls since the 2002 season, when UConn won 61-14 in the last game played at Memorial Stadium in Storrs, Connecticut. The teams are set to meet again next season at FAU.
