Morgantown, WV—-On Senior Night at Mountaineer Field, West Virginia’s seniors savored one last chance to sing John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” with fans after a home win. Victories at Mountaineer Field this season have been rare but this one was enough to help the Mountaineers become eligible for a bowl game.

UCF quarterback completed 21 passes for 172 yards, highlighted by a 45-yard touchdown to Kobe Hudson. RJ Harvey, the Big 12’s leading rusher, showcased his skills with 130 rushing yards and two touchdowns, including a 9-yard score that cut the deficit to 31-21 with 5:20 remaining and couldn’t get any closer.

However, UCF’s comeback attempt faltered when their onside kick failed to travel the required 10 yards. West Virginia’s Greene sealed the game with two fourth-down completions, allowing the Mountaineers to run out the clock. Greene finished 13-of-21 for 118 yards and added 49 rushing yards to his performance.

Despite outgaining West Virginia 348 to 318 yards, UCF struggled to overcome their recent slump, having now lost seven of their last eight games after starting the season 3-0. Notably, most of UCF’s offensive line is projected to join the NFL next season, with their standout center still only a junior.

West Virginia prevailed despite frequently facing third-and-long situations, thanks to a resilient effort against UCF’s tough defensive front.

Looking ahead, UCF will host Utah next Friday night, while West Virginia wraps up its 2024 regular season at Texas Tech next Saturday.
