Air Force Downs San Diego State At Peterson Gym

San Diego, CA-The San Diego State Volleyball team had a tall task on their hand when they faced the hot Air Force squad on Thursday night.

Despite SDSU Taylor Underwood career-high 31 kills, Air Force came back from a 2-1 deficit to beat San Diego State 25-23, 20-25, 25-20, and 15-13. The victory marked just the second time for the Falcons at Peterson Gym, was the program-record fifth road win of the year for the Falcons, who improved to 12-4 overall (4-1 MW).

SDSU (7-9, 2-3 MW) had the statistical edge in kills (77-61) and digs (60-46) while maintaining the edge in hitting percentage (.304 to .289) and service aces (4-3).

Senior Joi Harvey broke the program’s Division I career of 282 that Summer Koons had held since the end of her Academy career in 1999.

Harvey lead Air Force with 17 kills on .552 hitting, Mac Russ (13) and senior Aaryn Scires (11) combined for 41 of the team’s 61 kills. The talented trio helped the Falcons out-block the SDSU 9-3, Russ led all players with six blocks (two solo, four assisted), Scires had four (one solo, three assisted) and Harvey had two (both assisted). Caroline Reinkeensmeyer had 45 assists and two of the Falcons’ three aces, while sophomore Jordan Suan tallied 16 digs and the team’s other ace.

The Aztecs will try on Saturday, Oct. 7, when New Mexico pays a visit to The Mesa for another conference showdown, starting at 1 p.m. PT. The Aztecs will celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month for their clash with Lobos, and the first 250 fans in attendance will receive a free pink cap.

The Falcons closes out this week’s road trip on Saturday (Oct. 7), when it travels to Las Vegas to take on UNLV at 1:00 p.m. (PT) inside Cox Pavilion.
