Barclays Center—-Daryl Banks III delivered a stellar performance, notching 22 points, including three crucial free throws in the dying moments of the second overtime, propelling seventh-seeded Bonaventure to a thrilling 75-74 victory over No. 2 seed Loyola Chicago on Thursday, securing a spot in the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament semifinals.
Banks showcased his clutch abilities with a pivotal 3-pointer with 29.3 seconds remaining in the first overtime, giving Bonaventure a 65-63 edge. He continued his offensive onslaught in the second overtime, extending the lead to 72-68 with another timely three-pointer at the 2:16 mark.
In a tense finale, Desmond Watson orchestrated a crucial inbound play with just 3.4 seconds left in the second overtime, but Loyola Chicago’s hopes were dashed as Watson’s long-range attempt failed to find the rim as time expired.
Banks also contributed on the boards with eight rebounds for Bonaventure (20-12), while Mika Adams-Woods and Noel Brown added 13 points each, with Brown showcasing efficiency by shooting 4 of 5 from the field and 5 of 6 from the free-throw line.
On the opposing side, Philip Alston led the charge for the Ramblers (23-9) with 22 points and eight rebounds, supported by Dame Adelekun’s double-double performance of 12 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks. Miles Rubin chipped in with 12 points and three blocks.
Despite trailing 31-22 at halftime, Bonaventure’s resilience and determination paved the way for a remarkable comeback, securing a memorable victory and a berth in the conference tournament semifinals.
