The Tampa Bay Buccaneers experienced a challenging yet promising season in 2023, culminating in a 9-8 record. Despite showing flashes of excellence, the team faced obstacles that must be addressed to sustain success this season.

Offensively, the team demonstrated firepower and versatility at times, led by Baker Mayfield. Defensively, they showcased moments of dominance but struggled with consistency, particularly in generating consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks and defending the run.

1. Edge Rusher:

The Buccaneers’ pass rush faced significant challenges, lacking a consistent threat off the edge to disrupt opposing quarterbacks. While they have talent on the interior defensive line, the absence of a dynamic edge rusher limits their ability to apply consistent pressure, create turnovers, and alleviate pressure on the secondary. Addressing this need is paramount to fortifying the defense and elevating overall performance. So, in the second round look for the Bucs to select Penn DE State Adisa Isaac or Kansas Austin Booker.

2. Inside Linebacker:

The linebacker corps emerged as a point of concern for the Buccaneers’ defense. While they have playmakers at the position, there’s a notable gap in coverage and run support, particularly in defending against intermediate routes and stopping the run between the tackles. Adding a versatile inside linebacker can bolster the heart of the defense, provide stability, and enhance overall effectiveness against both the pass and run. For the third round Clemson LB Jeremiah Trotter would be a steal, he is exactly what they need a bonafide thumper and is always around the ball.

  • 2nd Round (No. 57 overall)

  • 4th Round (No. 125 overall)
  • 6th Round (No. 220 overall, compensatory)

3. Left Guard:

Offensively, the Buccaneers faced challenges in protecting Baker and establishing consistency in the running game. The left guard position, in particular, emerged as an area of concern, affecting both pass protection and run blocking. Addressing this need is crucial to solidifying the offensive line, providing stability, and creating opportunities for offensive success, especially in critical situations and against formidable defensive fronts. That is why they selected Duke guard Graham Barton in the 1st round 26th pick. With this selection it will shore up the offensive line.
