West Point, N.Y. —Army quarterback Jemel Jones scored a career-high three touchdowns and Army rallied in the second half to beat Louisiana-Monroe 48-24 on Saturday at Michie Stadium.

The Black Knights improves to 22-0 when wearing their traditional gold, black, gold uniform combination (since 2017). Also, Army is now 2-0 all-time vs. ULM, previously winning 37-7 on Sept. 12, 2020 at Michie Stadium.

Jones, who began the season as a back QB, started his second straight game and ran for 96 of Army’s 441 yards on the ground.

On Army’s initial possession of the game, they were able to move the ball down the field with RB Braheam Murphy busting free for a 40-yard run on the Black Knights second play from scrimmage. Braheam’s run would set up a fourth-and-four for Army— then Jones kept the ball on a keeper and took it down the right side line for 31-yards to pay dirt with 6:02 remaining in the first quarter.

“It’s the second week in a row, we come out leading at halftime,” ULM coach Terry Bowden said. “And we come out and don’t do the things that you have to do to win the second half.”

Trailing 7-3, ULM put a drive together to reach the red zone, setting up a fourth and goal from the three as time expired in the first quarter. The Warhawks kept the offense on the field and Army was able to get the stop on fourth down by S Quindrelin Hammonds broke up the pass on a quick slant attempt. After the Black Knights offense turned it over on downs deep inside its own territory, the Warhawks capitalized on the first play of the drive with a 12- yard touchdown pass from Chandler Rogers to Boogie Knight. The ULM score gave them a 10-7 lead with 12:49 left before the break.

Quinn Maretzki tied the game at 17-all with a field goal early in the third quarter, the Black Knights (3-4) scored twice more in the period to put the game away.

ULM finished with 349 yards but gained just 118 in the second half. Sacked three times, quarterback Chandler Rogers completed 21-of-28 passes for 164 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.

The loss was the 19th straight on the road for the Warhawks.

The Black Knights trailed Louisiana-Monroe 17-7 midway through the second quarter. It then all clicked for Army as they scored 31 unanswered points spanning from just before halftime to the five-minute mark in the fourth quarter to take a commanding 38-17 lead, which resulted in the lopsided victory. Bryson Daily capped Army’s 34-point second half with a 64-yard run late in the game.

LB Leo Lowin recorded an interception and a sack, marking just the seventh occurrence since 2015 that an Army defender as logged a sack and interception in the same game.
