Moton’s 19 Points Propel Grambling To Victory In Legacy Classic Over Jackson State 70-62

Prudential Center–– Tra’Michael Moton showcased his scoring prowess with 19 points, leading Grambling State to a 70-62 victory over Jackson State in the Legacy Classic on Saturday at the Rock in Newark, NJ. Moton’s stellar performance included a 7-of-14 shooting display, going 2-for-3 from beyond the arc. Additionally, he demonstrated accuracy at the free-throw line, going 3 for 4. Jalen Johnson contributed 15 points, shooting 6 of 8 from the hardwood  and making an impact from the free-throw line.

Antwan Barnett played a vital role for Grambling (9-12, 6-2 SWAC) with eight points and six rebounds, finishing 3 of 4 from the field. Ken Evans led the effort for Jackson State (8-13, 4-4) with 15 points and five assists, while Chase Adams added 14 points, four assists, and three steals.

After falling behind 7-5, the Tigers went on a 9-0 spurt with 15:34 left in the first half with Adams draining a three to take a 14-7 lead. Grambling State then responded to knot the game up at 29-29, heading into break. Jackson State got a lift from downtown in the period, hitting four shots to account for 12 of its 29 points.

The Legacy Classic win adds momentum to Grambling’s season, and Moton’s standout performance underscores the team’s potential as they navigate through the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Ken Evans scored 15 points and had five assists for Grambling State. Chase Adams chipped in 14 points, four assists, and three steals for Jackson State. In addition, Jordan O’ Neal had 11 points and six boards.
