Seattle, WA—-The Seattle Sounders defeated NYCFC 3-1 at Lumen Field as they hosted the first leg of the Concacaf Champions League semifinals on Wednesday night behind goals from Albert Rusnak, Jordan Morris, and Nicolas Lodeiro.

The game lived up to all the hype, as two of the best teams in MLS paired off for a spot in the finals. The Sounders got big contributions from their most prominent players, as well as from their highest-paid ones. Cristian Roldan and Jordan Morris ran scot-free on the wings at times, João Paulo controlled the midfield and will likely appear in the nightmares of every NYCFC player for days, all three Designated Players got involved in the goals in one way or another.

The match got off to a fast start, as the sides traded goals in the first half-hour. Seattle’s opener came through Rusnák, who finished off a clinical 13-pass build-up that ended with the free-agent offseason arrival taking a layoff from Morris and sliding it past Sean Johnson for his first goal in a Sounders uniform.

NYCFC Andrade scored with a 27th-minute equalizer with a close-range finish off a cross that was headed back across goal by Taty Castellanos. But Morris scored the final goal of an entertaining first half, putting Seattle back in front in the 34th minute, set up by a cross from Cristian Roldan. It was Roldan 8th assist of the season.

In the second half, Lodeiro added to the lead with a penalty, won by Raúl Ruidíaz, to take an advantage into the return leg. That second leg will take place on Wednesday, April 13 at 6 PM PT at Red Bull Arena.
