Bronx, NY—-In a thrilling match in New York, José Caballero’s crucial double in the 10th inning propelled the Tampa Bay Rays to a 2-0 victory over the New York Yankees.

Caballero’s decisive hit came off Caleb Ferguson’s 0-2 fastball, driving in Richie Palacios, who started the inning as the automatic runner. Reflecting on his performance, Caballero expressed his focus on driving the ball the other way and credited the team’s strategy. He also highlighted stealing third base to further solidify their lead.

Manager Kevin Cash praised pitcher Jason Adam for his composure in facing formidable hitters like Juan Soto, Aaron Judge, and Anthony Rizzo in the critical ninth inning. Adam’s stellar performance paved the way for Garrett Cleavinger to secure his first major league save, sealing the Rays’ first shutout of the season.

“It’s awesome, our hitters showed up when it matters most,” Adam said. “Top to bottom a really well-played game.”

Despite Nestor Cortes’ solid outing for the Yankees, their offense struggled once again, failing to capitalize on scoring opportunities.

Tampa Bay’s Zach Eflin matched Cortes effort, allowing three hits in six innings of work. Eflin gave up two hits to Soto, who is hitting .354.

“Just a lot of strikes, a lot of late movement,” Cash said of Eflin.

Following the game, Judge acknowledged the frustration of striking out four times but remained understanding of the fans’ reactions.
