Watkins Glen, NY—What a race it was here at Watkins Glen. Last year’s winner Corey Heim loves Watkins Glen because it is one of his six wins collected.

This year it was Joe Gibbs’ driver Brandon Jones who showed off his driving skills as he finished first after a chaotic restart in the last lap. This is his first ever win on the road course.

He stated “This is really big for us. Racing against Taylor Gray and Sammy Smith was really tough to beat all day. At the end, we were all on top of each other. So it was all about timing in that last restart and trying to force the issue a little bit.”

Last year, he came in 5th place at Watkins Glens and it was the last time he raced there. Last year Jones started in 6th place with 1:15.577

After receiving a push from Jones, Gray appeared to overdrive on turn 1 with Smith on the inside. That was the opening that Jones needed as both Gray and Smith veered off the track. Both drivers were able to climb out from their cars under their own power.

Friday night’s race was the 13th of the ARCA Menards Series season. Smith had a 19 point lead on Gray entering the series. This was the first leg of a weekend double header for the ARCA Menards Series as they head to Springfield Mile at the Illinois State Fairgrounds on Sunday, August 21. The Atlas 100 is scheduled to start at 2 pm ET and can be viewed live on MAVTV Motorsports Network or FloRacing.

Rajah Caruth was hit with a penalty after he was caught speeding on pit lane as he came in for tire changes due to a flat. Caruth is a name to look out for in the near future of this sport. He finished 11th at Watkins Glen.
