South Orange, NJ—Amir Dawes delivered a stellar performance, achieving his second career double-double and matching his personal best with 26 points. His outstanding display led the Pirates to a thrilling overtime victory of 75-72 against Saint Joseph’s, securing their advancement to the second round of the National Invitation Tournament.
Dawes scored 15 second-half points and hit a game-tying three with 30 seconds remaining in the game.
Displaying remarkable versatility, Dawes also equaled career highs with 10 rebounds and six made long three-pointers. Notably, he sealed the win with a crucial shot with 47.6 seconds remaining in overtime. The Pirates now prepare for their next challenge against North Texas at Walsh Gymnasium, with the game scheduled to air on ESPN2 at 11:30 a.m. this Saturday.
Contributing significantly to the victory, Dylan Addae-Wusu, chipped in 18 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Dre Davis, representing Indianapolis, Ind., secured his third double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 boards, in addition to three blocked shots.
On the opposing side, the Hawks (21-14) were led by Erik Reynolds II, who notched an impressive 27 points along with three steals. Christ Essandoko chipped in 14 points and eight rebounds for Saint Joseph’s, while Xzayvier Brown concluded the game with 13 points, six rebounds, and 10 assists.
